Google reviews in Europe: the rules for businesses

TapStar guide · updated 2026-10-19

Across Europe, tourists and locals alike choose restaurants, cafés and shops from Google Maps. Collecting genuine reviews is allowed and encouraged — faking them is not.

What EU law says

Under the EU’s Omnibus Directive, applied since May 2022, fake reviews are banned, and businesses that publish reviews must say whether and how they check that reviews come from real customers. National consumer authorities enforce these rules.

Ask in the local language

“Bewerten Sie uns auf Google”, “Laissez-nous un avis sur Google”, “Lasciaci una recensione su Google”, “Déjanos una reseña en Google” — asking in your customer’s language gets more responses. Add English for tourists.

Privacy

A TapStar card holds only a web link. It collects no personal data from the customer’s phone — the phone simply opens your review page.

Make it effortless

A TapStar card on the table or counter opens your review form in one tap — and the All-in-One card adds your website, socials and Save contact.

See the All-in-One card in action

A phone taps the card and the business page opens straight away: Google review on top, then WhatsApp, call, Save contact, Share, Instagram, Maps and website. No app, on iPhone and Android.
